How to teach English as a lingua franca (ELF) by Simpson Davies and Patsko (2013)

Useful and quick introduction to the teaching of English from an ELF perspective.

In this article, Katy and Laura briefly explain and provide examples of how we can teach pronunciation from an English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) perspective in line with findings from Jenkins’s (2000) “The Phonology of English as an International Language” and Walker’s (2010) “Teaching the Pronunciation of English as a Lingua Franca”. They also outline a series of steps that teachers can follow in order to incorporate non-native speakers as pronunciation input for classroom instruction. Katy and Laura also write a blog where they share ideas on ELF pronunciation for teachers of English (https://elfpron.wordpress.com/).
