Ying Wang is Lecture Applied Linguistics (focusing on Global Englishes) in the Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics at the University of Southampton. Her research interest includes English as a lingua franca, language ideologies and English education in the context of China. She was involved in the organisation of the 8th International Conference of English as a Lingua Franca held in Beijing in 2015. She has published articles and book chapters on the research of ELF in relation to Chinese users of English and the research on English medium instruction in China. She has a monograph entitled Language ideologies in the Chinese context: orientations to English as a lingua franca to be published by the De Gruyter Mouton in June 2020.
